The short answer

UAE Pass is the UAE's national digital identity. It is a smartphone app that lets citizens, residents and visitors log in to government and private services with one account, sign documents digitally, and keep digital copies of official documents. You register with your Emirates ID, GCC ID or passport, then verify your identity by face scan in the app or at a kiosk. ICP, GDRFA Dubai and MOHRE services now ask for a UAE Pass login at the first step.

Why you will keep meeting it

ICP service cards for visas, fines and establishment cards say the service requires a UAE Pass login. GDRFA Dubai's smart services accept "UAE Pass or username". MOHRE's service process begins with "Login using UAE Pass". u.ae adds that banks, exchange houses and telecom companies use it too. In practice, a verified UAE Pass is the key that opens most residency paperwork you will do yourself.

How to register for UAE Pass

  1. Download the UAE Pass app from the App Store or Google Play. The official listing is published on uaepass.ae.
  2. Open the app and register with your Emirates ID (residents and citizens), GCC ID, or passport (visitors).
  3. Verify your identity. Follow the in-app face verification, or visit a UAE Pass kiosk if the face check does not complete. u.ae says face verification can create a verified account in under five minutes without a centre visit.
  4. Set your PIN and enable biometrics on your phone so logins and signatures are quick.
  5. Test it by logging in to smartservices.icp.gov.ae or a GDRFA Dubai service. If the login succeeds, your account is ready.

What you need

  • A smartphone with a working camera
  • Your Emirates ID, GCC ID or passport
  • A UAE mobile number for the one-time passcodes
  • A few minutes in good light for the face check

What UAE Pass can do

  • Single sign-in. One login for government, semi-government and private services (uaepass.ae).
  • Digital signature. Sign a document in the app or on the selfcare portal, then share it. Anyone can verify a signed document through the app or portal (uaepass.ae, u.ae).
  • Document vault. Request digital versions of your official documents and share them with service providers. u.ae describes the vault as blockchain-backed.
  • Digital Emirates ID. ICP's FAQ says the digital Emirates ID can be used through the UAE Pass app.
  • Profile and address updates from inside the app (u.ae).
  • Mobile authentication for service providers, so a bank or clinic can confirm it is you without a counter visit (UAE Pass developer FAQ).

Fees

The pages we reviewed on uaepass.ae and u.ae do not publish a user fee for an individual account, so this guide does not state one. Government services you access through UAE Pass carry their own fees, listed on each ICP, GDRFA or MOHRE service card.
