Sponsoring family under the UAE Golden Visa: spouse, children and what is not stated

Two layers of official text govern a Golden holder's family. The Golden Visa pages establish the right: u.ae lists "the ability to sponsor family members, including spouses and children" and the ICP guide lists "the ability to obtain residency permits for your spouse and children". Neither page sets separate conditions for Golden sponsors. The conditions come from the general family-residence terms on the ICP residence service card, which apply to resident sponsors of every kind. This page keeps the two layers apart so you can see which statement rests on which page.

The ICP residence service card lists, among the Golden Residence fee lines, "Financial guarantee for the investor's family residency, applied per family member, with a maximum amount of AED 15,000 - 3000 AED". Three points follow from the wording. It is a guarantee, not a fee, so it is lodged rather than spent; the card does not describe the refund conditions for this line, though ICP describes visit-visa guarantees as refundable after cancellation or exit without violations. It is worded for the investor's family, and the card does not say whether the same line applies to talent or student categories. And it is capped: five family members reach the AED 15,000 maximum.

1. Your own Golden residence is issued first. A family file cannot be opened against a residence that does not yet exist.
2. Attest the kinship documents in the issuing country and at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This is the slowest step for most families; start it before your own residence is issued.
3. Entry permit or status change. Family members abroad enter on a family entry permit; those already in the UAE on another status change status inside the country.
4. Medical fitness for members aged 18 and over.
5. Emirates ID and residence issuance for each member, with the AED 3,000 guarantee per member where it applies. Complete within 60 days of entry.
6. Diary the expiry. Each dependant's residence ends no later than yours. If your Golden residence is renewed, the family residences need renewing too.

You, as the Golden holder, are exempt from the rule that voids a residence after 180 continuous days abroad; the ICP card lists Golden, Green and Blue Residence holders among the exempt categories, and u.ae says they can enter at any time while the residency is valid. The pages we checked do not say whether sponsored family members share that exemption. Until an official page says so, treat a dependant who will be outside the UAE for more than six months as subject to the ordinary rule, and check with ICP or GDRFA Dubai before the six months run out.

The u.ae family residence page says that cancellation of the sponsoring family member's visa requires cancellation of the dependants' visas, and that dependants are granted a six-month grace period from the date of expiry or cancellation to obtain a new residence permit. u.ae also says a sponsor must cancel dependants' visas before cancelling their own. If you move from an employment residence to a Golden residence, sequence the family cancellations and re-issuance so no one is left without a valid status.
